This weekend the “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” trailer opened along with the new Keanu film, “The Day the Earth Stood Still”. You can see the trailer here. The movie looks great and I think the first three X-Men films did a great job of using Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. What excites me however, is the introduction of Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool.
Ever since Reynolds appeared in “Blade III”, there have been rumors circulating that he would be playing The Flash. When this never panned out, Deadpool came along with it’s own set of rumors, one of which being that after the introduction of the Deadpool character, a spin off film might be in the works.
Known as the ‘Merc with a mouth’, it’s the perfect role for sarcastic Reynolds. Take a look at the Marvel Comics Deadpool page. I just hope they do the character right. I’d love to see Reynolds shooting and slicing his way through a good action sequence or two. It would be nice to see “Wolverine” set Deadpool up for a Punisher-style mercenary film.
Hopefully they’ll show us more in the next trailer.
What do you think? Should Reynolds have waited around for The Flash to happen (maybe)? Is Deadpool the right comic book character for him or do you think they might gloss over him as a martial artist with a few good lines thrown in for comedic effect?
